Frequently Asked Question

What is two-factor authentication?
Last Updated 6 months ago

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an additional login code to ensure the protection of your personal data in cases where a single password is simply not enough. If someone happens to guess or steal your password, they can easily access your computer account, information system, e-mail box, storage or other data of yours. Two-factor authentication helps solve this problem by using a code that is generated in an external application.

Currently, the authentication method is supported by using one-time numeric passwords (time-based one-time password, TOTP), which are generated in the mobile application using a shared key. It is a short, usually 6-digit password. If someone wanted to access your account or the data you have protected by 2FA, they would also have to access your application and obtain this other code.

In general, it is recommended to use 2FA software or hardware - applications or specialized tools. Sending the 2FA code via SMS is currently not recommended due to the fact that any SMS communication may be hacked.

There are many applications for smartphones. Below are some suggestions as an example:

FreeOTP (Android, iOS)
Google Authenticator (Android, iOS)
LastPass Authenticator (Android, iOS, Windows)
Microsoft Authenticator (Android, iOS, Windows)
Authy (Android, iOS, Windows, MacOS, Linux)
Yubico (Android, iOS, Windows, MacOS, Linux)
